From April 22nd to 28th, 2025, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) joined the global community in commemorating the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. This annual observance, held on April 28th, aims to promote safe, healthy, and decent work environments worldwide.
EACOP’s week-long campaign, themed “Back to the Basics – LIFE SAVING RULES,” focused on reinforcing fundamental safety principles across its operations. The initiative spanned 31 sites across Uganda and Tanzania, uniting teams under the shared objective of achieving zero harm.
The campaign featured practical, hands-on demonstrations that translated safety policies into daily practices. Key activities included:
- Working at Height: Emphasizing the importance of fall prevention measures and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Line of Fire: Training workers to recognize and avoid hazardous zones where they could be struck by moving equipment or materials.
- Lifting Operations: Demonstrating safe lifting techniques and the use of mechanical aids to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.
Employees actively participated in exercises, toolbox talks, practical demonstrations, and safety drills. The use of stop work cards was emphasized to empower workers to halt operations if unsafe conditions were encouraged if work is deemed unsafe.
The Managing Director of EACOP and all the senior leadership team members visited various sites to engage with teams and reinforce the company’s commitment to safety. Banners displaying messages like “Zero Harm” and “Life-Saving Rules Save Lives” were prominently featured, serving as constant reminders of the organization’s safety priorities.
EACOP’s observance of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025 shows its dedication to embedding safety into every aspect of its operations. By focusing on foundational safety practices and embracing technological advancements, EACOP continues to build a resilient and secure work environment for all its employees.
